AnatomyTV - 3D Dentistry & Podiatric Medicine

Update- 3D Dentistry should be working again.  Supported browser are Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.  Podiatric Medicine will open once with no problems.  If you close the window and want to go back in, you will need to clear your browser history and cookies.  You can also access both 3D Dentistry and Podiatric Medicine via the main AnatomyTV link.  3D Dentistry is in the Clinical Specialties section and Podiatric Medicine is in Other Products. -10/5/18

The AnatomyTV - 3D Dentistry & Podiatric Medicine databases are not working.  The Podiatric Medicine database will open the first time you click on it.  If you close the window you will have to clear your history to open the program again.  The 3D Dentistry database gets stuck on the Unity web player download page.  We have contacted the vendor and will update this blog when the problem is resolved.

UPDATE - access has been restored - 9/25/18 3:56pm

The  Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service (ILLiad)  (https://westernu.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html) is down. Users will not be able to login to submit requests at this time. We will update this blog when more information is available.

ScienceDirect eBooks off-campus

UPDATE - The problem has been fixed and all table of contents should be displaying correctly. 9/27/18

The table of contents are not displaying on our ScienceDirect ebooks when accessing them from off-campus.  The "search in this book" feature can be used to find content within the ebooks.  The vendor has been contacted and we will update this blog when the problem has been fixed.

Visible Body- Human Anatomy Atlas

UPDATE - The browser version of Visible Body is working off campus however it is very slow and can take up to 10 minutes to load. We are continuing to work with the vendor. 9/25/2018

The desktop version of Visible Body- Human Anatomy Atlas is not working off-campus.  It can still be access on campus.  The link to download the app is not affected.  We will update this blog when the problem is resolved.

eJournal Search

UPDATE - the eJournal search has been fixed- 8/24/18 7:37am

Our eJournal search tab on the library homepage and the search box on the Electronic Resources page is not working.  The vendor is aware of the problem and is currently working on it.  This problem does not effect any of our databases or the other search tabs on the library homepage.  We will update this blog when the problem is resolved.

Cochrane Library saved searches

Cochrane Library is launching a new redesigned site on Tuesday, August 7th.  They will be transferring customers' existing saved searches to the new site from 5:00pm, Sunday, August 5th to 4:59pm, Tuesday, August 7th.  They strongly recommend not using the saved search function during this time period.  If you have any problems with saved searches after this time period, please contact them at cs-cochrane@wiley.com

Library System Scheduled Outage

The Pumerantz Library Online Catalog (https://whsl.sirsi.net/) will be unavailable on Wednesday, July 25th at 9 p.m. for 2-3 hours.

During this time, the Online Catalog features (item lookup, online renew, online holds, item due notices, etc.) will not be available. Electronic Resources will be available through the Library’s webpages (www.westernu.edu/library).

WesternU IT Monthly Maintenance window 7/20 6pm-8pm

This is a reminder that the monthly maintenance window will occur on Friday, July 20, 2018, from 6-8PM. Starting at 6PM some of our services and applications may be unavailable. You may experience short network and internet connectivity disruptions during the maintenance window. All services and connectivity should be back to full operation no later than 8PM.

During this window access to Electronic Resources may periodically be unavailable due to maintenance on the Proxy Server.

Journal Citation Reports (JCR) remote access

UPDATE - JCR is now working off-campus- 8/6/18 1:25pm

Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is not working correctly off-campus. You can still look up titles and view journal categories.  When you click on an individual journal to view the profile, you can see the current year's information, but it asks you to pay if you want to see previous years.  The problem has been reported and we will update this blog when it is resolved.

National Guideline Clearinghouse website will be unavailable after July 16, 2018 due to loss of federal funding

Notice from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

The AHRQ National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC, guideline.gov) Web site will not be available after July 16, 2018 because federal funding through AHRQ will no longer be available to support the NGC as of that date. AHRQ is receiving expressions of interest from stakeholders interested in carrying on NGC's work. It is not clear at this time, however, when or if NGC (or something like NGC) will be online again. In addition, AHRQ has not yet determined whether, or to what extent, the Agency would have an ongoing role if a stakeholder were to continue to operate the NGC. We will continue to post summaries of new and updated evidence-based clinical practice guidelines until July 2, 2018. For any questions, please contact Mary.Nix@ahrq.hhs.gov.

Our access to the AAO Journal is currently down.  We have print access from 1991-2014 and users can also submit article requests via ILLiad.

We are working with the publisher to restore access and will update this blog when it is back up.

DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology eJournal

Due to a substantial increase in price and low usage, we have cancelled our subscription to the ejournal DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology.  Access is still available via PubMed Central back to 2010 with a 12 month delay.  Users can submit a request via ILLiad for articles within the current year.

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) titles not displaying correctly in EDS and Full Text Finder

Two eJournal titles from the American Veterinary Medial Association are not displaying correctly when searching EDS or when using our Full Text Finder button in other databases like PubMed.




We have contacted our provider to fix the issue.

Full Text links in Publication Finder not working

UPDATE: This issue has been resolved. 1/25/18 12:03pm

If using our eJournal search the date range and links to full-text are currently unavailable. Our vendor EBSCO is currently working on the issue.

If you are using a database like PubMed or EDS and click on our Full Text Finder button, you should be directed to full text.

If you have any problems finding articles, please contact the library at reference@westernu.edu.

Increase in Interlibrary Loan Turnaround Time

Update: As of  3:06 p.m. on 1/23/18, business is resuming as usual and our interlibrary loan requests are being processed.  There should no longer be a delay in our turnaround time.

Due to the federal government shutdown, there may be an increase in our turnaround time for interlibrary loans.  You are welcome to continue to submit your requests, it just may take longer to receive them.  Thank you for your patience.

Library Proxy server off-campus access

UPDATE: As of 9:10 am on 1/8/2018 the proxy server is now available off-campus

The proxy server is currently blocked off-campus. This is causing our electronic resources to be unavailable if you are off the WesternU Network and using the proxy server to log in remotely. Technical Support is actively working on the issue. We will post updates as more information becomes available. Electronic resources are available on-campus.
