UPDATE: Wiley ebooks are now opening off-campus. 4/17/20 9:32 AM

Our Wiley ebooks are having problems opening off-campus.  When you click on the PDF link to open a chapter, you are taken to a blank page or an error page, depending on your browser.  They do not work in Chrome or Safari.  If you use IE or Firefox, you can right click on the error page and open the frame in a new tab or window.  We have submitted support tickets with Wiley and our proxy provider.  We will update this blog when the problem has been fixed.

EBSCO eBooks

UPDATE: The problem with ebooks has been fixed. 4/1/20 10:22 AM

EBSCO has reported that there is an intermittent problem with their ebooks.  You may get a 404 error if you are trying to open an EBSCO ebook.  They are working on the problem and we will update this blog as soon as it is fixed.

ICE Video Library - Technical Difficulties

UPDATE: ICE Videos appear to be back up and operational. You may need to refresh your browser to resume video playback.  3/25/20 8:05 PM 

The streaming platform host used by ICE Videos is experiencing technical difficulties with video playback. Their technical support team is aware of this error and working closely with their host to resolve the issue as the highest priority. In rare events such as these, disruptions have typically lasted no longer than 30 minutes.

You may see the following error when you try to view ICE Videos:

Internal Server Error

Sorry, an error occurred. Please try again later.

Error Code: 500

We will let you know as soon as video playback returns to normal.

Proxy Server unavailable

UPDATE: Proxy server is back up, please contact libsupport@westernu.edu if you continue to have issues logging in. 3/25/20 3:20 PM

We are aware that the proxy server is not connecting while off-campus. We have reached out to the Information Technology department.

VitalSource partners with publishers to make ebooks available at no cost for a limited time

Many different publishers on the VitalSource platform are providing free access to their ebooks.  You will need to register for a free account to access VitalSource.  Here are the instructions:

1. Go to http://bookshelf.vitalsource.com/
2. Click on the "Create a VitalSource account" link underneath the Sign In box
3. You must use your WesternU email address when registering
4. You will be sent a confirmation email. Click on the link in the email to verify your account
5. Once you log in, click on the Explore tab to browse or search for a specific title

**You are only able to borrow 7 items 

**Free access ends May 25, 2020

PsychiatryOnline planned maintenance for 3/13/2020

PsychiatryOnline.org will be undergoing planned maintenance on Friday 3/13/2020 from 2PM – 5PM US PDT. During this time, PsychiatryOnline will be down for up to two hours and you may see a 404 Error message when trying to access the site.

Online Catalog Scheduled Outage

The Pumerantz Library Online Catalog (https://whsl.sirsi.net/) will be unavailable on Friday, March 6th from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. due to server maintenance.

During this time, the Online Catalog features (item lookup, online renew, online holds, item due notices, etc.) will not be available. Electronic Resources will be available through the Library’s webpages (www.westernu.edu/library).
