In order to provide more secure browsing access to OUP-hosted journals, OUP have moved all our journals to be hosted on https: web pages.  This change took effect on Tuesday 16th Feb 2016, and should be transparent to most customers.  However, some customers have experienced an issue when accessing our journals.  We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and are working with our customers individually to resolve all issues as quickly as possible.

The Pumerantz Library discovered this problem today and unfortunately there is an issue with accessing Oxford Journals off-campus. We will be working with Oxford to fix the issue.

UpToDate required registration

Registration is now required in order to successfully login to UpToDate. Although this has always been a requirement for UpToDate, there appears to have been a way to skip the registration form when accessing, allowing WesternU users to search without registering.

This work around was discontinued by UpToDate on February 6th. If you click on the UpToDate link on the library website, login through the proxy server using your WesternU login credentials, then see the following screen,

it is likely that you have not yet registered with UpToDate. Once you fill out the new user registration and click "Submit Registration" you should then be able to search UpToDate. You will only need to register once and UpToDate should automatically log you in from that point forward (you will still need to login through the proxy server). Please see our UpToDate online guide for more detailed information regarding UpToDate registration.

Pediatrics in Review

UPDATE: Pediatrics in Review is now searchable using the eJournal search boxes. 1/21/16 9:00am

Pediatrics in Review is one title that is affected by the current issue we are having with specific journals not appearing in our A-Z list. (See blog post http://pumerantzlibraryoutagesandupdates.blogspot.com/2016/01/journal-z-list-missing-titles.html for more information on this.)

It has come to our attention that some students are looking for articles in this journal. Please use the below URL to access the eJournal.

Currently we are experiencing an issue with accessing some eJournals through the search boxes on our Home Page and Electronic Resources page. Approximately 197 eJournals that we subscribe to through a specific vendor are not appearing in the search results list despite the fact that we have active subscriptions to those titles. I have been assured by the vendor that this issue is currently their top priority and they are actively trying to resolve it.

If you are on-campus and can not locate a journal you know we have, please try using a search engine like Google to locate the journals webpage. If we subscribe, it will recognize the on-campus IP address and will allow you to access the title. If you are off-campus and search using a search engine, be sure to add the proxy URL http://proxy.westernu.edu/login?url= before the journal URL. This will route you through the proxy server and allow you to gain access once you log in.

Library System Scheduled Outage

Hello WesternU Community, On January 26th – 28th the Pumerantz Library will be performing a migration of our Library System. During this time, the Online Catalog and its features will be unavailable (item lookup, online renew, online holds, item due notices, etc.). Electronic Resources on the Library’s webpages will be available during this outage. Check-in and Check-out of materials can be done in person, item renewals and holds will be available in person or by phone. Physical items can be looked up using the Pumerantz Library Discovery Service on the Library’s homepage, but the item’s location may not be available. E-Journal Searching and slow results list

It has come to our attention that the E-Journal search feature available on our Hompage and Electronic Resources page is very slow while waiting for the full-text results list to appear. We have opened a support call with the vendor who provides this interface to assist us in rectifying the issue.

In the meantime, there is a stand alone E-Journal search interface that appears to provide faster results.
